First of all, sorry this is long but I really need some advice!! Please read this and help me…
I graduated last year from a university and got a bachelor of economics degree. Given the economy during the time, I couldn’t find a job so I went to a temp agency. I ended up working in a couple factories over the last 6 and a half months. I don’t mind the work at all, because it’s the people who make it worth getting up every day.
During this time I ended up going back to college for an associates degree in health care business services. I’m doing it because I’m struggling with trying to find what I want to do with my life. I’m taking 3 classes this semester, and I figure once I’m done with these 3, I’ll be able to tell if I want a job in this field or not. The classes are somewhat hard so far, I have to memorize medical codes and learn insurance principles.
Recently a friend of mine wanted me to come to a martial arts class. So I went one day just to humor him. When I went, I spoke to the instructor and talked about my situation. He ended up offering for me to come to his factory for an interview and seeing if he could get me a full time job. I went today and it’s looking like I’ll get the job, and it would be full time. I am so surprised by how this is happening.
My problem is, I don’t know what to do. I’m 22 years old and I live with my parents, going to school part time, working part time. Either of the factories I’ve been sent to could eventually hire me, and I’d be perfectly fine with that. I was actually offered a job a few months ago at the first factory I was at but I couldn’t at the time, because I was taking classes on campus. (I plan on taking them online from now on) If I get sent back to that factory, I could very well get hired there and that’s actually what I want to happen. There’s no guarantee it will.
So my question is, should I take this job now and get to working full time right away? I would be doing basic production work but also working with a computer, which I haven’t done at my other jobs.
Or should I pass this job offer up and keep my life the way it is? I would have more time for school and I would eventually get hired somewhere, probably in the summer. I would work at the factory until I’m done with school, which is about 2 years if I stick with the program. Until summer, I would probably only be working 30 hours a week unless more temp jobs open up.
What would be the best thing for me to do?
I’m currently working in a cheese factory.
